Overview

The Narrogin Railway Station, a historic landmark located between Kipling Street and Herald Street, Pioneer Drive, and Fairway Street, connects the past with the future of the community. The station is an important part of Western Australia's railway history, with a story full of key moments. It was first built around 1889 and was transformed into the iconic brick and iron structure we see today in 1907, designed by J.V. Miles of Subiaco for the Western Australian Government Railways. This transformation made the station a vital link between Perth and Albany, helping drive economic growth in the region. Over the years, the station has changed along with Narrogin, reflecting the growth and development of the town.

Today, the station’s restoration is a great example of teamwork, with the efforts of many people and organisations coming together. The station now houses the Narrogin & Dryandra Visitor Centre, which acts as a gathering place for culture and community. The Railway Heritage Room, filled with donated memorabilia, gives visitors a chance to step back in time and learn about the station’s history. The station also supports modern creativity through its Artist in Residence program, blending the old with the new.

Visitors can also enjoy the fascinating N Scale Diorama, a detailed miniature model that brings the station and surrounding areas to life. The diorama provides a closer look at the station’s history, offering a unique view of how it once looked and functioned.

Inside the Visitor Centre, you'll also find the Narrogin Regional Herbarium, a collection of local plants. It highlights native species and plants found in the Narrogin and Dryandra areas, allowing visitors to explore the region’s natural beauty and learn about the importance of protecting these plants.

The revitalised Narrogin Railway Station is more than just a restored building; it is a symbol of community spirit, heritage, and progress. This project not only preserves the past but also helps shape Narrogin’s future. The station now invites visitors to explore its rich history, enjoy its new spaces, and become part of the ongoing story of this unique town.
